I hope everyone had a good one! We had a wonderful New Years at a little restaurant by the name of Chez Eric in Wakefield, Quebec. A friend of ours bought the restaurant last summer, and the evening was reserved entirely for friends. The dinner menu was a complete surprise to everyone and absolutely fabulous. Highlights of the meal were a sashimi type salad with caviar, foie gras, seared scallops, bison tenderloin with king eryngii mushrooms (which I love, love, love), and three types of desserts. It was a beautiful, snowy night and locals stopped by at midnight on their cross-country skis. Mostly it was wonderful to spend the night with friends.
After two weeks in Ottawa eating too much good food and being lazy, the girls and I are home in Montreal. We feel like this today.
It may have something to do with discovering snowdrifts had settled against the back door while we were away. It may be that we are successfully proving Newton's First Law; an object at rest stays at rest. Obviously (whatever the source of our laziness), I need more socks, and so it was with fortuitous timing that these Child's French Socks from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks tumbled from my needles this morning.
This is yarn I dyed last spring, merino superwash from Henry's Attic. I call the colourway pumpkin pie spice. Orange is my favourite colour - and I notice it is never listed as an option anywhere.
For Christmas, I wove and lightly felted a fun, artsy type scarf for my mother-in-law. Here she is working as a scarf model. It's alpaca and very soft. She loves it and has worn it almost every day.
She also loved her Eyelet Rib Socks. What more could a sock-knitter ask for than a happy sock recipient who wants to model her birthday socks for more blog photos?
Last but not least, here is a recent Jacquard Weaving project.
I'm paying homage to my summer job. The finished weaving (as a piece) leaves me with a lot of 'should have, could have, would haves,' and lessons for the future, but I'm cutting myself some slack as this project also meant fully tackling the Pointcarré software. In that respect I was successful, although I still have much, much, much more to learn.
It's back to the studio for me this coming week, and I can't wait.

Oh my! You have been busy! I love the orange socks! ANd you are right, Orange is rarely an option.

The weaving reminds me of heading out to my Dad's cabin on the bush roads and passing numerous scrub piles along the way.
