Gentleman's Fancy Socks

Gentleman's Fancy Socks by Nancy Bush

For Rob C.

Have you ever had yarn and pattern and recipient go together in an unexpected and completely perfect serendipitous fashion? These socks are for our friend Rob. He won them in a sock-draw on Christmas Day. (Which, for the record, is a fun way of giving a knitting gift so that no one feels left out. We put everyone's name in a bag, I selected one, and knit socks for the winner). It wasn't until I began knitting these socks up that I realised the pattern is similar to 'bricks' (improperly laid, of course!) and the colour, kind of brick red. This is serendipitous, I say, because the recipient is actually a stonemason.

So I'm going to secretly rename this pattern, Stonemason's Socks, and call the colourway is stonemason red.

The pattern is a simple and easy knit. I made a few adjustments to the pattern since I jumped up 2 needle sizes to accommodate the slightly thicker yarn.

Isn't this cute?

Since everyone we know is having babies, little socks are my new leftover yarn project.

I've always thought Sinopa's twitchy little tail had a life of it's own.

Apparently, so does she.

The Stonemason's socks are gorgeous! What yarn is that?
