Waiting, waiting...

This is a strange period of waiting. The wee one is due to arrive in three days, but both my primary midwife and back-up midwife think she will hang out until week 42. I guess we'll see. I keep cleaning and organising and knitting and going to the gym and walking (when it's not too cold!) in the hopes of convincing her to budge. We moved three weeks ago and we're all settled in, so any times she's ready...

Back in December, Iris from Once Upon a Time sent me a beautiful package of yarn - handspun, cashmere, silk. Thank you Iris! I have been busy knitting my way through it. As it so happens, it's another cold and snowy winter here in Montreal and I decided I needed a thick toque that would cover my ears. How did she know that her handspun yarn would be perfect for me?

I used (loosely) the pattern for the painted forest ribbed hat.

The hat was such a quick and easy knit that I made one for J too.

With the cashmere, I am knitting the cowl from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. The skein said 'sock yarn', but I decided cashmere was too beautiful and soft for socks.

I'm going to do some weaving over the next few days. I'm sure that if I put a big warp on my loom and plan to finish it before she arrives, she'll hurry up and get here.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and holidays! Here's one gratuitous photo of a cat sleeping with yarn.

Oh, the waiting! Hang in there. When it starts, it starts and then the world changes because your wee little lady will be here not just in there. Savor those kicks! With/after each of my births I had "phantom kicks". In both my birth plans I stressed how important it was to me to know when the last "push" was coming because of that end to the symbiotic connection only mommas and babes can have in utero. Both times I was able to snap back into reality for a minute and allow myself to be present at that moment.

I hope you are feeling well. Keep eating no matter how full/big you feel because you'll need the fuel when labor starts.

Best Wishes to you all!

thanks for your mail - and as I understand you will having a baby within a few days. Exciting! I'am a mother of three kids (15,12,9 years) but the days I gave birth to them are still in my memories to cherish... wish you wonderfull moments with the coming birth. xD

So glad you liked the yarn - I love what you've done with the handspun and the cashmere (and I have to admit that although I also have some cashmere sock yarn in my stash I have been hesitant to use it for socks... may e I'll follow your example).

And how exciting - very very soon your little girl will be here! I can only second that it's an amazing day when a little one is born. Try to sleep as much as you can before the birth - I know it's difficult but it really helps if at least you didn't have a really bad night right before the birth. With The Bean we lost one of the cats the night before, then next night I went into labour, and the night after The Bean woke up and started to be hungry (he was born in the morning so had slept all day). After three nights of hardly any sleep I was a wreck!! ;-)

Anyway, best wishes to you and I'll be thinking of you!
xx

What a great photo of you and the cats. You have to show it to her someday and be like 'This is from when we were waiting for you!' I hope you are feeling well and everything is going good. The knitting looks lovely too!
