After a long summer away, I am back in the cradle of civilisation.

This is a photo of Dense Cotton Grass from the far north. A friend of mine has been working up in Nunavut. This is her photo - I love it and have appropriated it for future art usage. Apparently, the Inuit use the "cotton" from the flowers to make the wicks for the Kulik ( seal oil lamps). I would love to try and spin it or play with it.

Merino Lace Socks

I finally finished something! These were knitted to order by a very talented artistic friend up north, who gave me one of her handmade necklaces in exchange.

Her necklaces are absolutely beautiful!

Kaeli Necklace

And well.... there was one thing I forgot to include in my last post of summer highlights.

Due in early January. We think we're having an alien. Needless to say, this was a surprise, as I would never have intentionally planned to be living up north in a tent for the first four months of pregnancy! But all is well and I found the physical work made it much easier to cope with morning sickness. It was ironic honestly - I could work all day as long as I snacked every two hours, but on days off, I lay around all day feeling nauseous and accomplished absolutely nothing.
This means that this year was my last season up north. There are other couples who trek up there every season with their wee ones, but I don't think I want that to be me...

Congratulations!!! I am SO excited and happy for you guys! Yay!

Oh boy, I can't even imagine being in a tent during my first trimester. I never even left the bathroom though so I guess in one way I was "camped out" :-)

Oh, SUCH JOY!

Congrats you guys!

WOOT! And then.....Shit! 4 months of baby in belly with no couch to schlump on, and to deal with the nausea? You are amazing.

Glad you are back and congrats on the news Say.

First I saw the cotton grass and thought, I want to spin that...

Then I saw the laughing baby and spinning went right out of my head. Congratulations!!!!!

I've already congratulated you, but again, CONGRATULATIONS!! This is such exciting news! :-)

I can't imagine how those first months were, working so hard, physically. With The Bean I wasn't feeling too bad, but this time round I've been exhausted and in particular during those first three months I did a lot of lying on the sofa, feeling sorry for myself. ;-)

On a different note, I love the photo of the cotton grass!
